That said, Croatia is very much an apartment-style vacation destination, and many of the best options can be found on Booking.com, where you’ll find a wide range of beautiful and well-located stays. If you’re looking for a more traditional luxury hotel experience, options like Radisson Blu Resort &amp; Spa Split and Hotel Ambasador Split are also great choices, though we do not have discounted rates available for those.

Accommodations

Flying to Split

Split Airport (SPU) is the major airport in the area. There are frequent international connections into Split via major European hubs. The airport is about 30 minutes away from the city center with Taxi's, rental cars, and public transit available into the city.

Rental Cars

If you rent a car, please keep in mind that parking in old European cities can be extremely limited. Check with your hotel to make sure they have parking. Please check whether you require an International Driving Permit prior to travel. This can be obtained in person at a local AAA Auto Club and typically takes about 20 minutes. Rental cars are generally affordable, averaging $20–30 per day. We recommend purchasing damage coverage or using a credit card that offers rental car insurance, as European rental agencies may charge for even minor wear. Recommended rental companies: Sixt, National, and Enterprise. When booking, please pay close attention to the transmission type (automatic vs. manual). Parking in European cities can be limited, so we suggest planning ahead when driving in urban areas. While we recommend taking a taxi or ride service to the venue, so you can fully enjoy the evening, parking will be available on-site at the wedding venue for those who choose to drive.

Travel to Croatia

An easy day trip from Split, Krka is known for its series of cascading waterfalls and clear green water. Wooden walkways wind through the park, bringing you right alongside the falls. An easy half- or full-day trip by rental car, private driver, or small group tour.

Krka National Park

One of the best parts of being in Split is how easy it is to reach the islands. High-speed ferries run daily from the Split's port to Hvar, Vis, and Brač. No planning required beyond a ticket. You can go for the day or stay overnight. Hvar is lively and polished, with beautiful beaches and great restaurants. Brač is relaxed and known for its stone villages and coastline. Vis feels more remote, with quiet coves and clear water. If you’d prefer to see several in one day, private boat charters and small-group island-hopping tours leave directly from Split.

Islands around Split: Hvar, Brač, Vis

Usually visited by speedboat as part of a full-day island excursion (often combined with Vis). Sea conditions determine access, but when open, the cave’s natural blue light is striking.

Blue Cave

A more remote archipelago of over 80 islands, explored by boat. Kornati feels wild and expansive — dramatic rock formations, minimal development, and endless open water. It’s typically a full-day boat excursion (often departing from nearby coastal towns like Šibenik or Zadar).

Kornati National Park

Split grew around this 4th-century Roman palace, and today its stone corridors are filled with cafés, wine bars, and small shops tucked into ancient walls. It’s easy to spend an afternoon wandering the narrow streets, climbing the bell tower, and then settling along the Riva promenade for dinner by the water. Fans of Game of Thrones may also recognize the palace cellars, which were used as the location where Daenerys Targaryen kept her dragons. If you’re interested in more filming locations, the hilltop Klis Fortress just outside the city was used for scenes in Meereen and offers incredible views over the Dalmatian coast.
